SINGAPORE: There was a time, in the not too distant past, when trying to get a taxi in Singapore during rush hour was a stressful experience, beset with doubt and uncertainty.
And if it was raining, the situation was even worse. Demand would seemingly far outstrip supply, leaving some commuters stranded as they tried in vain to hail a cab or book one.

The situation became so frustrating that it was raised in Parliament numerous times.

SMRT to change entire taxi fleet to electric vehicles in 5 years


All SMRT taxis are expected to be electric vehicles by 2027.
The company announced its goal of a complete changeout of its entire taxi fleet to electric taxis within the next five years, according to a news release on Apr. 20.
The first batch of 300 electric taxis is expected to arrive in Singapore progressively from July.
The electric taxis could include a few models such as sedans, station wagons and multi-purpose vehicles to meet the diverse needs of the market.
Yesterday, SMRT had also announced a Memorandum of Understanding that Strides Mobility signed with EuroSports Technologies on developing and deploying electric motorcycles in Singapore and the region.

SMRT to distribute Singapore-made electric motorcycles
The range of two- and three-wheelers SMRT will be distributing are targeting food delivery and logistics applications.
Electric motorcycle maker EuroSports Technologies has teamed up with SMRT-owned Strides Transportation to develop, market and supply smart electric motorbikes.
In an announcement to the Singapore Exchange on 19 April 2021, EuroSports Technologies said the two local companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which will see Strides appointed as the sole distributor of commercial electric motorcycles in Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region.
Strides Transportation's range of two- and three-wheelers will target food delivery and logistics applications
This range of two- and three-wheelers will be separate from EuroSports' Scorpio brand of premium electric motorbikes. They will be targeted for food delivery and logistics applications.

SINGAPORE: Electric motorcycle manufacturer EuroSports Technologies (EST) has partnered with Strides Transportation, a subsidiary of public transport operator SMRT, to develop, market and supply smart electric motorcycles.
The two signed an agreement on Monday (Apr 19) that will see Strides act as the sole distributor of the smart electric motorcycles in Singapore and the Asia Pacific region.
