believe me, that is saying something. this has been the worst fire season in texas history, and this is the worst of more than 35 fires burning right now. it s southeast of austin in bass strup county. and 1,000 other homes are threaten threatened. firefighters are attacking on the ground and in the air. and chris welch is in the thick of it. are they making any headway at all? caller: not exactly. this is a very bad day for fighting a fire to put it lightly. officials here caution, you know, they asked everybody to evacuate yesterday in the hardest hit areas. this fire continues to move south, moving through neighborhoods. now, thankfully this is one thing i think we can be thankful for, moving into areas that are less populated. and they expect the number to grow today. i want to give aquick look at the plumes we have been looking at today. we have seen the smoke rise and fall as it goes through the thicker woods, as it goes through grass. you see less smoke and mor ....

it s important to say they are not saying there is a specific threat, but what they are saying is there is a continued threat. certainly from al qaeda and affiliate organizations, and it notes that briefly al qaeda and the terrorists groups have linked their attacks to significant dates, and of course 9/11, there couldn t be anymore specific or significant dates than that. you know, i was just talking with a friend that said is this something that we should really, really be worried about. the state department issues these, randy, on a regular basis. in fact, this supplements another caution that was issued. it s the responsibility of the state department to warn americans who are abroad about this. that said, it is, of course, 9/11, very significant and the state department is saying there s a continuing threat out there. but it s not a travel alert for those here at home, it s for those who are traveling abroad or residing abroad? yes, that s what the state depart ....

from the summer break. president obama has actively been meeting with some to create a plan. the question is how specific will it be and will it help? white house officials tell us it s a work in progress, and will include tax cuts and infrastructure ideas that could create jobs, and measures that target unemployed, and struggling economic sectors. they say the president is working on a debt reduction proposal and will present the so-called super committee, and as you know it s the 12 lawmakers tasked with cutting trillions from the federal deficit. their plan is due at the end of november. and the president s debt plan will go beyond that $1.5 trillion. now republicans who have been calling on the president to come up with a plan of his own, and they are now responding. we appreciate the fact that he is trying to devote some time to it, and not just on the bus tour, and not vacationing at martha s vineyard, but giving thought to the american people, and i thought tha ....
