Wayne County Clerk Liz Ann Woodrow says there will be six contested races in the upcoming June primary election, all on the Republican side. She held a lottery yesterday morning to determine their placement on the ballot; in order, Crystal Ellis and Yvette Anderson have filed for Treasurer; Andy Glover and Randy Hedrick for District 2 on the County Board; Roy Estheimer, Eddie Barbre, and Brandon Bittles for District 3; Joshua Isle, Matt Shreve, and Jeremy Witter for District 5; Bill Bruce and Vern Hutson for District 6; and Gene Kollak, Steven Troyer, and Shane Neuman in District 7. Estheimer, Hutson, Kollak, and Neuman are incumbents. The primary election this year will be June 28th. Residents will be able to seek vote-by-mail ballots between March 30th and June 23rd, and in-person early voting will begin May 19th. Winners have been named in Saturday's Fairfield Lighted Christmas Parade. First place in the Youth-School-Adult Organizations went to the Flora Apple Queen Pageant and second place to Frontier Community College. In the Church category, first place went to the entry from the Lebanon North Cumberland Presbyterian Church and second to the First United Methodist Church. In the Business category first place went to Fairfield Banking Company's entry and second to the CRHPC Fairfield Community Health Center. In the Individuals-Animal-Antiquie-Golf Cart-Side by Side category, first place went to the Fairfield Rural Fire Department and second to the Clark Family entry. The Grand Marshal Award was given to the Snow Globe by Jim and Sheryl Musgrave and the Best Overall Use of Lights Award went to the Flora Apple Queen Pageant. The Edwards County Health Office announced 30 new cases of COVID-19 in the past week, bringing its total to 1,173; 21 cases were in unvaccinated individuals. Wabash County announced 24 cases in the past week to reach 2,254 cases; 22 people were in isolation. Hamilton County added seven cases yesterday and sat at 1,384; one person was hospitalized, and 19 were in isolation. White County added three to reach 3,141, and Jefferson County reported nine. The state Department of Public Health announced 6,119 new cases yesterday and 45 additional deaths. Statewide totals sat at 1,815,994 cases and 26,459 deaths. The Southern Region had a seven-day positivity rate of 4.7 percent on the 28th, down from five percent on the 27th. Currently the State of Illinois is reporting a total of 1,815,994 cases of COVID-19 in the state, with 30,274 variant cases.
