'Star of Bethlehem' poses opportunity to reflect on meaning of Christmas

For many months, I’ve been watching the southwestern night skies, as Saturn and Jupiter flirt with each other, moving closer and closer toward Monday's “Great Conjunction.”
We are promised a “bright star” near the southwestern horizon for about an hour after sunset as the two planets appear so close together in the night sky that they seem like one heavenly body.
We will watch this “star” set as night falls. It will not light the night skies as it hugs the horizon in the early evening and, shortly, both Saturn and Jupiter will be out of sight in the evening sky altogether.
