Knots: A Forced Marriage Story Movie Review By Reviewed by Tami Smith, Film Reviewer for Shockya Grade: B+ Release Date: May 7th, 2021 An Ultra-Orthodox Jewish man may recite the following prayer each morning: Blessed are you, Lord our God, Ruler of the Universe, who has not made me a woman. This recitation makes a perfect sense after we realize that being a woman in such culture means: being a wife, a mother, a cook and a house keeper. Wet Season Movie Review Strand Releasing Grade: B+ Release Date: April 23, 2021 Abdominal injections, vaginal ultrasounds and artificial inseminations are all part of daily lives of women aged thirty-five-plus who want to conceive a child but are unable to. Wet Season introduces us to one Ling, (Yeo Yann Yann), a Mandarin language teacher in a boys school in Singapore. Her students seem polite but care little about studying Mandarin in a country, where English is the “lingua franca”, used in daily business transactions and sprinkled sporadically in personal conversations. ....

The plot is based on real events that took place during the October 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, when Soviet ballistic missiles were being deployed in Cuba, JFK demanding their removal, and Khruschev refusing, thus driving both super-powers to begin preparations for a nuclear war while setting the world into a state of panic. The crisis itself plays a secondary role to the personal story of the British, American and Russian operatives. ....
