Printing on the Iron Hand-Press: An Afternoon Workshop for the SFPUL

Please join the SFPUL for its third event of the spring semester, a hands-on printing workshop at Pied Oxen Printers with master printer, David Sellers. Attendees will print a small keepsake specimen broadside on an 1848 Hopkinson & Cope “Albion” hand-press, using metal movable types hand-set in advance. Printing will be done on an archival quality paper, dampened for the event, consistent with contemporaneous (c.1848) practice. (PRINCETON, NJ) -- Princeton University Library (PUL) will open its newest exhibition in the Ellen and Leonard Milberg Gallery, Firestone Library, on April 6, 2022. "Through a Glass Darkly: Alchemy and the Ripley Scrolls 1400-1700" will show how European alchemists built on Greco-Egyptian, Islamic, and late medieval foundations to create a golden age of alchemy from the 15th century to the time of Sir Isaac Newton.
