The Five Demands, now playing in New York, feels more pressing than ever in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling against affirmative action.
Its return June 20-July 2 offers a chance to catch a varied lineup of films and celebrate the anniversary through special events. There's a virtual program, too, for those who want to stream at home.
The Five Demands revisits the untold story of an explosive student takeover of the City College of New York in April 1969, proving that a handful of citizens can band together to effect meaningful change. Followed by talkback with filmmakers Greta Schiller and Andrea Weiss, along with two of the student participants, moderated by professor Su Friedrich. Reception with refreshments precedes screening at 7 PM. Open to public; no tickets required.
