Arsenal could be set back by €8m as instalments for fringe player begin
Date published: Thursday 6th May 2021 11:45 - Samuel Bannister
Arsenal have paid the first instalment of their add-ons for Pablo Mari after details of the deal were confirmed.
Mari joined Arsenal on loan from Brazilian side Flamengo in January 2020. The deal was made permanent by the end of the season, costing them a further €5m on top of the initial €8m fee. But their payments have not finished there.
As
Lance have noted, Flamengo have already received an additional €1m for Mari. That’s because there is an agreement in the deal for Arsenal to pay that sum every time he makes 10 appearances for them.

CLEVELAND – The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed center

The center from Brazil still ranks among the franchise’s all-time leaders in offensive rebounds (fourth, 1,479), defensive rebounds (seventh, 2,955), total rebounds (sixth, 4,434), games played (eighth, 591), blocks (tied-eighth, 397) and steals (eighth, 529). He earned NBA All-Defensive Second Team honors in 2009-10.

'Sold like a couple of sacks of soybeans' - Kayky's Man City move sums up Brazilian wonderkid brain drain

“He came, he seduced us, he impressed and he left. Kayky was sold to Manchester City like a couple of sacks of soybeans,”
Tribuna de Minas writer Gabriel Ferreira Borges fired in a scathing column following confirmation of the teenager's imminent move.
Kayky and team-mate Metinho, a fellow City target, Borges opines, “will have different fates in the City Football Group's game of Russian Roulette. The future is a game of chance between Lommel and Girona.”
The former, who was watched closely by the club before making his debut for Flu at the start of 2021 and, reports in Brazil suggest, had been signed prior to ever setting foot on the pitch at senior level, is at least expected to be retained by City once he arrives in England.

MANCHESTER, England (Reuters) – The breakaway European Super League may have ended in dramatic failure last week but it is far from the end of radical proposals for new competitions in the world game.
The status quo of European football survived a major challenge from the 12 English, Italian and Spanish clubs who announced their breakaway only for it to collapse within 48 hours as the Premier League’s “Big Six” pulled out.
Maintaining the status quo, however, is not the goal of FIFA president Gianni Infantino, who has kept a relatively low profile throughout the Super League furore but remains committed to big changes.

They didn’t win the trophy but they indubitably wowed the world in Spain
Coach Tele Santana passed away 15 years ago today

Brazil entered Spain 1982 on a 19-match unbeaten run, having scoring 46 goals and conceded just ten in the process. That sequence included ten successive victories in which, within seven days, they beat England in London, France in Paris and West Germany in Stuttgart.
Did you know?
Povo Feliz (Happy People), which was better known as
Voa, Canarinho (Fly, Canary-Yellows), shortly before the global finals with composers Memeco and Nono do Jacarezinho. It was a huge hit in Brazil.
For the first time ever Brazil included overseas-based players in a World Cup squad: Falcao of Roma and Atletico Madrid’s Dirceu. The likes of Julinho Botelho (Fiorentina), Evaristo de Macedo (Barcelona), Dino Sani, Mazzola (both AC Milan) and Canario (Real Madrid) had previously been excluded.

Diego Alves shines as Flamengo win Brazilian Super Cup_GMW.cn

2021-04-12 10:27 By: Xinhua

BRASILIA, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Diego Alves made three decisive saves as Flamengo secured their second consecutive Brazilian Super Cup on Sunday by beating Palmeiras 6-5 on penalties.
The former Valencia goalkeeper kept out the spot kicks of Luan, Gabriel Menino and Mayke in the shootout before Rodrigo Caio converted the decisive attempt.
Earlier, Palmeiras midfielder Rafael Veiga struck twice from the penalty spot either side of goals from Gabriel Barbosa and Giorgian De Arrascaeta as the teams ended the allotted 90 minutes tied at 2-2.
"This title means a lot to us," said Alves, who has struggled with injuries in the past two years and temporarily lost his place as Flamengo's first-choice keeper.

Once maligned, Dembele and Vinicius shine before El Clasico - Newspaper

MADRID: Barcelona will rest their hopes in the El Clasico on a young player who until recently was unreliable in the clutch. So will Real Madrid.
Barca travel to Real on Saturday in what is set to be one of the most pivotal El Clasico meetings in recent memory, with both sides fast closing in on stuttering Atletico Madrid at the top of the La Liga table.
The Catalans, unbeaten in 19 league games, are only one point adrift of Atletico, who visits Real Betis on Sunday. Real are right in the mix in third place, two points behind Barca.
Barca forward Ousmane Dembele appeared to be hopelessly prone to injury before this season, while Real winger Vinicius Jr. had developed the maddening habit of failing to finish off his scoring chances.

Brazilian NOC to hold mandatory anti-racism training for Tokyo 2020 team
Saturday, 10 April 2021
The Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) has launched mandatory anti-racism training for all athletes, coaches, doctors, nutritionists, officials and other members of its team that is set to travel to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
All personnel will have to complete the 30-hour online course this week ahead of the Games, which are scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 8.
It is expected that around 650 people will have to complete the training.
"The goal of the course is to provide information, knowledge and also open a broad debate on racism in sport," Rogério Sampaio, COB secretary-general and judo gold medallist at the Barcelona 1992 Olympics, told

The WhatsApp message that saw Vinicius choose Real Madrid over Barcelona

Card image cap

Vinicius was given three days to decide and, although the pressure for a boy his age was tremendous, he listened to his heart. That may sound like a cliche, but the truth is that he chose Real Madrid, even though Barcelona offered him a little more money.
And so he sent a WhatsApp message to one of his representatives, Lucas Mineiro: "Real, mate. We're going to the biggest club in the world."
Four years after that message, Vinicius has played 106 games with Real Madrid, having become the fastest foreign player in club history to reach 100 appearances.
With 14 goals and 22 assists, he is averaging one goal involvement every 153 minutes. During this period he has also been called up twice by the Brazil national team, with which he debuted on September 11, 2019 against Peru.

Real Madrid's usual Champions League magic transforms Vinicius into an unlikely matchwinner against Liverpool

Thanks to this double from an unlikely source, Madrid put one foot in the semi-finals with a dominant performance against Jurgen Klopp’s stricken Reds.
Benzema was entitled to complain, given he's been more than pulling his weight since Cristiano Ronaldo left in 2018 with nobody stepping up to help him, but Vinicius made a pair of decisive contributions during the finest performance of his Madrid career to date.
With just 13 goals in his first 105 games for Real in all competitions, the 20-year-old has been operating far below the level Zinedine Zidane requires, but in this quarter-final first leg at Alfredo di Stefano something changed. Permanently, Madrid will hope.
