Schalke desperately need Matthew Hoppe, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, or both to get among the goals if they're to avoid being relegated at Arminia Bielefeld on Tuesday (kick-off: 7.30pm BST).
Latest
Frank Kramer's steadying of the ship has helped lift Bielefeld a point clear of the relegation play-off spot going into the promoted club's final five fixtures of the regular season. Arminia have lost only two of seven matches since the 48-year-old was installed as head coach, and extended their unbeaten run to three with Saturday's goalless draw at Augsburg. A third win of the Kramer tenure could have huge ramifications for their top-flight survival bid, although 16th-placed Hertha Berlin will have three games in hand when they come out of a coronavrius-enforced team quarantine at the end of April. Depending on midweek results, Bielefeld could put up to seven points between themselves and the automatic drop zone. Personnel-wise, Andreas Voglsammer is on standby for striker and captain Fabian Klos, who is carrying a knock. Midfielder Arne Maier could return after missing the Augsburg stalemate with an abdominal complaint.

Bielefeld beats Freiburg to leave Bundesliga relegation zone
April 9, 2021 GMT
BIELEFELD, Germany (AP) — Arminia Bielefeld escaped the Bundesliga relegation zone with a 1-0 win over a Freiburg team which was depleted by bans and the coronavirus on Friday.
Freiburg’s Baptiste Santamaria scored an own goal in the 68th minute when Masaya Okugawa’s shot at a corner deflected off his head, leaving the goalkeeper too little time to react.
Bielefeld had plenty of more chances to score against a Freiburg team with one win from its last six away games. Joakim Nilsson towered above the goalkeeper to head the ball into the net in the 74th after another well-worked corner routine but was judged narrowly offside.

Arminia Bielefeld edged a cagey encounter with Freiburg on Friday night to move out of the relegation zone, with Baptiste Santamaria's own goal handing the promoted side their first home win since January.
Goals: 1-0Santamaria (o.g. 68')
Freiburg made a lively start at the SchücoArena, with Santamaria driving to the byline after a cheeky backheel from Wooyeong Jeong, but the Frenchman couldn't quite steer his cross into the danger zone. Bielefeld's newly crowned Rookie of the Month Ritsu Doan tried his luck with an audacious lob from distance, looping his attempt over the bar, before teammate Andreas Voglsammer glanced a header just wide. Voglsammer then had the game's first shot on target, but his close-range effort was straight at Freiburg keeper Florian Müller. Santamaria continued to make a nuisance of himself as he sent in a fine low ball for Roland Sallai, but the Hungarian dragged Freiburg's best chance of the opening period wide of the far post. The visitors had more of the ball in a first half that had plenty of midfield battling but few genuine chances, with Sallai seeing another shot blocked as the sides went in all square at the break.

Ritsu Doan is the main man tasked with unlocking Mainz's improving defence when Arminia Bielefeld travel for this relegation six-pointer on Saturday (kick-off: 2.30pm BST).
Latest
Mainz hauled themselves out of the bottom three for the first time since Matchday 8 with a 2-1 victory at Hoffenheim prior to the international break as their resurgence under Bo Svensson continued. It was their second win on the spin and fifth from 12 games under the Danish coach, compared to one from 14 before the 41-year-old took charge. A third consecutive victory would give them breathing space from Bielefeld, putting five points between the teams. They were, however, sweating on the fitness of Danny da Costa whose January loan from Eintracht Frankfurt has coincided with those five subsequent league wins. He picked up a hamstring injury in Hoffenheim and was replaced by Daniel Brosinski, who would again be ready to step in again if needed.

Leipzig held to 1-1 draw by Frankfurt in Bundesliga

LEIPZIG STALEMATE
Leipzig came into the game against Frankfurt on a run of six Bundesliga wins which had brought it back into striking range of Bayern. Justin Kluivert forced a good save from Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp early on. A slice of luck gave Leipzig the lead early in the second half as Trapp parried a speculative shot from Kluivert into the path of Forsberg for a simple finish.
Kamada was left in space to meet Andre Silva’s cross as the Leipzig defense tracked back. Leipzig’s defensive record is among the Bundesliga‘s best, but errors played a big part in its elimination from the Champions League by Liverpool.

Their shooting hasn't been the problem: Robert Lewandowski is on his way to breaking Gerd Muller's record of 40 goals for a single season and as a team (71 goals) they score on average once every 5.5 attempts, which is staggeringly efficient. Defending remains the question mark for Hansi Flick's team: This is Bayern's most generous campaign at the back in nearly 30 years, having given up 34. Newly promoted Bielefeld remain winless in their seventh straight match after wasting a number of chances. Bremen, on the other hand, were clinical in front of goal to snatch all three points on the road.
The match had been postponed in February due to heavy snowfall in Bielefeld. The hosts started well as they created the first half chances through Amos Pieper and Andreas Voglsammer in the opening stages on Wednesday, Xinhua news reported.

Bundesliga | Arminia Bielefeld vs. Werder Bremen: probable line-ups, match stats and LIVE blog!

Hosts Bielefeld made the brighter start and settled into proceedings right away and they nearly took the lead in just the eighth minute. Marcel Hartel's inswinging corner from the left was superbly flicked-on by Manuel Prietl at the near post but Amos Pieper mistimed his jump and could only head off target from inside Bremen's six-yard box. Ritsu Doan - restored to the starting lineup after being named among the substitutes by Frank Kramer in the 0-0 draw with Union Berlin that marked the new coach's first game in charge - was next to go close but his left-footed effort destined for the bottom corner was well blocked by Omer Toprak. Milot Rashica and Sargent both had wayward efforts at the other end, but the visitors were unable to carve out any chances of real note as things remained goalless at the break.

Arminia Bielefeld have appointed Red Bull Salzburg youth academy director Frank Kramer as their new head coach, having parted ways with Uwe Neuhaus on Monday.
Kramer was previously part of Germany's youth set-up, coaching their U18, U19 and U20 teams in recent seasons, and Bielefeld are delighted to have secured the 48-year-old on a two-and-a-half-year contract.
"We had convincing discussions with Frank Kramer and are looking forward to the joint task of further developing our team in all areas," said sporting director Samir Arabi.
"Frank is a multi-faceted trainer with a lot of experience in the professional and junior sector. We're convinced that, with his professional and analytical qualities, he's the type of coach who fits the Arminia path and who we need for the next steps in our development."

RB Leipzig vs PSG: Nagelsmann's debt to Tuchel and why greatness awaits

Don't show me this message again✕
As the rain pelted down, splashing against the floor-to-ceiling glass windows at the expansive Red Bull Academy, Julian Nagelsmann paused briefly to soak in everything that has happened since he wanted nothing to do with football after suffering cruciate ligament damage aged 20.
In February, though, as RB Leipzig were readying to line up against Tottenham in the Champions League last 16 – an encounter that pitted Nagelsmann against Jose Mourinho, the man he used to be compared to when he worked in the shadows at Hoffenheim – there was a chance for him to take stock.
Preparing for a big professional challenge has a way of prompting a rewind and the former Augsburg II defender recalled how having to prematurely end his playing career forced him to shun the sport for over a month.
