Former biathlon world champion Franziska Preuß will miss this week's World Cup Finals in Canada due to illness and minor sinus surgery, the German Ski Federation (DSV) said on Tuesday. It was the latest setback for Preuß who had started strongly into the season but then missed several events due to the coronavirus and other infections. Preuß, who turned 30 on Monday, had to withdraw from the relay at last month's world championships where Germany claimed the bronze medal, and missed the last two

IBU Biathlon Climate Challenge making great start in tree-planting mission

IBU Biathlon Climate Challenge making great start in tree-planting mission
Tuesday, 11 May 2021
The International Biathlon Union (IBU) claims participants in the Biathlon Climate Challenge are on track to planting 50,000 trees by the middle of this month courtesy of their lung-busting efforts.
Almost 7,500 people are said to have joined 10 team leaders in taking on the climate action initiative since it launched on May 1.
Participants have been challenged to track their physical activity in a fitness app which will convert distance they have covered or calories they have burned into trees to be planted by a reforestation project.
With the overall aim of planting 100,000 trees, the IBU believes it has made a great start towards reaching that goal.

Friday, 11 December 2020
Johannes Dale and Dzinara Alimbekava secured maiden International Biathlon Union (IBU) Biathlon World Cup victories in Hochfilzen in Austria.
Norway's Dale outshone compatriots Johannes Thingnes Bø and Tarjei Bø to claim gold - and give the national selectors something to think about, having recently been omitted from the relay team.
Dale was a clear winner with a clean shooting record in the men's 10 kilometres sprint, finishing in a time of 23min 32.5sec.
France's Quentin Fillon Maillet had a return to form and came second, matching his best sprint performance on the World Cup circuit.
Fillon Maillet also had a clean shooting record, finishing 17.1sec behind Dale, and was joined on the podium by compatriot Fabien Claude.
