The state of South Carolina will receive $2.2 million from a multistate settlement against the maker of TurboTax tax preparation software, the state’s attorney general says.
Consumers who were “deceived” by TurboTax’s owner Intuit Inc. into paying for free tax services will begin receiving checks from a multi-million multi-state settlement. Up to 15,904 Hawaiʻi consumers who were impacted, will receive checks in the mail. Most consumers are expected to receive between $29 and $30.
The refunds are part of a $141 million settlement affecting more than 4 million consumers all 50 states plus Washington, D.C.
More than 465,000 Texans will receive payment from the $141 million settlement that was reached with Intuit TurboTax in 2022 after customers were misled to pay the company to file their federal tax returns.
