Dozens of people have spent a cold and rainy Auckland day breaching the latest Covid-19 restrictions outside Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern s Mt Albert electorate office.
The group, appearing to protest a range of topics from the latest restrictions to vaccination efforts and being silenced in media reporting, were there for several hours despite the fact that Ardern spent Monday in Wellington.
The protests came as Auckland entered day one of alert level 3 restrictions, and the rest of New Zealand alert level 2, after three cases of the highly-transmissible UK variant of Covid-19 were found in a south Auckland family. ....

(MENAFN - The Conversation) As vaccine programmes gather pace worldwide, attention continues to focus on both viral mutations and the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine – sometimes simultaneously.
South Africa has temporarily halted the vaccine s rollout. This is because a preliminary study (yet to be released or reviewed by other scientists) suggests that the vaccine provides limited protection against mild to moderate cases of COVID-19 caused by the South African variant of the coronavirus.
This may seem quite alarming. However, the study only involved young people, who tend to be less badly affected by COVID-19, and so it didn t assess whether the vaccine protects against severe disease caused by the variant. ....

The Whanganui community is working to gather financial support for a couple who lost their home in a devastating fire.
John and Miranda Milnes Delhi Ave home was quickly consumed by flames after the fire started shortly before 12pm on Thursday and friends and neighbours say they are just grateful the couple managed to get out. ....
