Guernsey County commissioners hosted a meeting this week with officials from the county s Emergency Management Agency regarding the transition process for when Director Gerry Beckner retires at the end of the month.
Attending on behalf of the EMA were Beckner and Deputy Director Amy McCance. Commissioners have announced plans to have McCance assume control of the agency on June 1.
We wanted to take a look at the details for the transition to Amy and determine if there are any issues that need our attention or that we need to address, said Commissioner Dave Wilson. ....

Melting snow and rain not expected to cause flooding in Guernsey County

With temperatures in southeastern Ohio rising this week, several inches of snow already on the ground following recent storms will be melting.
Couple that with any rain in the forecast, and local waterways could be rising.
The question is will they rise enough to cause widespread flooding?
We always watch for flooding and we monitor the creek levels, but I don t think flooding is a major concern at this time, said Guernsey County Emergency Management Agency Director Gerry Beckner.
High temperatures during the week are forecast by The Weather Channel to be in the low 40s to the low 50s with highs of 51 degrees on Wednesday and Saturday and 50 degrees on Sunday. ....
