The cancellation of Mardi Gras hasn’t just upset people who were looking forward to getting wasted; it’s also caused financial hardships for several New Orleans businesses that rely on the annual event to generate revenue.
“We had already purchased all of our food and drink supplies,” says Beaux Church, director of Café Lafitte in Exile, Good Friends Bar and Rawhide 2010. “And we had the rug pulled out from under us at the last minute.” Business owners’ biggest beef with the city is city officials didn’t announce Mardi Gras restrictions until just a few days before it was set to begin, Church says. ....

New Orleans businesses brace for Mardi Gras shutdown

Some bars in New Orleans have replaced the festive Mardi Gras flags that hang from their businesses at this time of year with white ones.
Beaux Church, director of Café Lafitte in Exile, Good Friends Bar and Rawhide 2010, said the white flags indicate the businesses have surrendered to the citywide crackdown during New Orleans most famous celebration.
We had already purchased all of our food and drink supplies . and we had the rug pulled out from under us at the last minute, Church said. All of the bar owners would have been much better off with at least two weeks notice. ....

as I look back at all of my past carnivals, there s one thing I m really proud to be associated with. The crew of Barca s Let s get E How lucky am I that the crew parkas was founded at the Margaret or Fan Club, back in November of 1992 at the Good Friends Bar, the owner of the bar, Tom would made his dog, Jo Jo MK would queen of the parade and captain for life. Since then, canines from all over the world have been sniffing through the quarter with their owners, parking up a good time and raising $2 million in the process for rescue dog groups and other pups in need. It s about 1000 to 1500 pups a year in the parade, and a ton of people go to the French Quarter to see the pups and people all dressed up in that year s thing. Harry P ....
