President Biden’s $400 billion proposal to improve long-term care for older adults and those with disabilities was received as either a long overdue expansion of the social safety net or an example of misguided government overreach.

Young women of color are more likely to get covid than their peers

Mar. 12, 2021
A new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention highlights the racial and gender divides of the coronavirus pandemic, this time among a group of people who have been considered relatively safe from covid-19′s worst impacts: young adults.
According to the analysis, among young people between the ages of 15 and 24, women of color were most likely to contract the virus over the last year.
The report, based on data collected from 16 U.S. jurisdictions, looked at fluctuations in covid cases since the start of the pandemic. At the outset, young people of color were much more likely than their White peers to contract covid. As the pandemic progressed, some of those gaps have closed, but overall, young women of color tested positive for covid at higher rates than others in their age group.

For the past five years, Alvarez has been the president of The Children's Partnership, a nonprofit children's advocacy organization.

Nannies in
New York City are being given little choice but to travel to COVID-19 hotspots with the wealthy families they work for, an investigation by The New York Post found.
Nannies and other
domestic staff are being taken to ski resorts for the holidays, which means they can't celebrate with their own loved ones.

Traveling to hotspots also means staff will be celebrating the holidays away from their own loved ones.
One nanny told the Post that the Manhattan family she worked for asked her to accompany them to the Vail ski resort in Colorado over the holidays. Wealthy families from across the US have checked into high-end ski resorts for the festive period, and many of these locations are fully booked up, the publication reported.
The Manhattan family is flying by private plane with other staff, including a personal chef, to vacation with "some very high-profile friends," the nanny said.
Discussing the current travel restrictions, the nanny said the family "feel like they are above it all."
