The question of “What to do with the Municipal Auditorium?” is hardly a new one. Before construction had even started, the public was split on whether to build such a facility.

Seven tenants are already prepared to move into the 27-unit 1030 Lofts in the old Food Among the Flowers building on the corner of Quarrier Street and Leon Sullivan Way in Charleston, West Virginia. Jennifer Pharr, director for leasing and property management for Riggs Commercial Realty, said demand for the space is high. She anticipates tenants can move in in April 2024. Emergency winter shelter, warming center successful | Kanawha Valley

Last fall, Charleston City Council allocated money to warming stations for the first time. The stations, held overnight at the SHOP at Bream Memorial Presbyterian Church, have been open 12 times with 326 different people stopping by to eat, warm up or sleep, according to Traci Strickland, executive director of the Kanawha Valley Collective — the organization that coordinates the shelters.
