Details On New Working Relationship Between AEW and NJPW


As you may have guessed from last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite, AEW and NJPW have some type of working relationship as KENTA showed up at the end of the episode to attack Jon Moxley. He will also team with Kenny Omega on next week’s episode in a Lights Out match with Moxley and Lance Archer.
In the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed this and stated that the pandemic “likely sped things up” towards building that relationship. The only way to get Jon Moxley on programming taped in the United States was to make a deal, as AEW previously wouldn’t allow him to wrestle televised shows in the US. ....

Professional wrestling fans can soon watch their favorite NJPW wrestlers on their Roku devices.
New Japan Pro-Wrestling has been a company on the rise with American audiences in the past decade due to partnerships with TNA, Ring of Honor, now possibly AEW. The launch of New Japan World back in 2014 was a turning point for the company with how accessible it became, but now they re taking it a step further.
Variety is reporting that the wrestling company is launching its own Roku channel in the near future. The channel will be viewable in American, Canada, and the UK. Beginning February 11, New Japan will air every Thursday at 5 PM ET, then the replays will be available on-demand. ....

On PWI’s digital-only issue “Inside NJPW”, which is available for download, Walter Yeates sat down with new NJPW President and CEO Takami Ohbari who took over after Harold Meij resigned in September. Ohbari previously served as CEO of NJPW of America, and in the interview, he opened up about himself as well as plans and goals he hopes to help NJPW achieve.
Ohbari first opened up about his 20-year career in the IT industry as well as going to business school in America. He stated that working for NJPW was a childhood dream, and he talked about working with NJPW’s partners at TV Asahi as well as the Japanese government. He revealed that the main things he was working on was on the digital marketing side of things as well as improving NJPW World and NJPW’s TV footprint in Japan. ....

The Wrestling Inc. Daily podcast where he and Wrestling Inc. Managing Editor Nick Hausman discussed NJPW’s expansion into North America. Collings gave his thoughts on the impact of the resignation of NJPW President Harold Meij.
“It definitely is going to have a big impact. There’s a lot of complicated aspects to the Meij hiring and his tenure there,” Collings noted. “I think if people are familiar with Jim Herd in WCW, historically, when people look back at that era, a lot of the criticism aimed at Jim Herd is, well, he didn’t come from wrestling.
