Duke Energy, Central Electric energy customers reporting unusually high energy bills

When temperatures drop, more energy is needed to keep the inside of our homes warm, the representative said. The larger the difference between the outside temperature and the thermostat setting of a home, the more energy it takes to keep it warm at the desired setting. In terms of the impact of weather, across all of our members, we show an average increase of 96% in heating degree-days due to colder temperatures from December to January bills. Heating degree-days measures the impact outside temperatures have on heating needs and energy use.
