More Traffic Pattern Shifts Coming for I-70 Bridges Project in Wheeling | News, Sports, Jobs

Traffic pattern changes are expected to take place in several areas throughout the I-70 Bridges Project in the coming week, including the shifting of the single I-70 eastbound lane above the back channel bridges over to the westbound side of the interstate.
Motorists on Interstate 70, already dealing with traffic pattern changes with the I-70 Bridges Project, can expect some more in several areas along that interstate.
West Virginia Division of Highways officials said that along with the scheduled shift of the single I-70 eastbound lane between the Bridgeport Marion Street exit to the Fort Henry Bridge beginning Tuesday single-lane closures are scheduled on Ohio 7 and in the Elm Grove area next week. The I-70 eastbound lane shift is part of a long-term traffic pattern change that will continue through approximately the end of 2021. ....

WHEELING Motorists should expect to see Swank Construction crews out working once again on the $215 million I-70 Bridges Project in Ohio County by the end of January, according to West Virginia Division of Highways Area Engineer Mike Witherow. That return comes after a several-week break over the holidays.
The nearly three-year highway project is entering its “second phase” following the nine-month closure and reopening of the westbound Fulton Bridges section of the highway in 2020. Swank crews are expected to begin working again over the coming weeks in the numerous “phase construction” areas throughout the project, according to Witherow. ....
