Restaurants in Michiana can't find enough workers. Will a cut in unemployment benefits help?

SOUTH BEND — Eric Robertson needs an extra 200 employees to staff his restaurants.
As the vice president of operations for Delight Restaurant Groups, Robertson oversees 28 area Taco Bell locations, and things are getting tight.
In recent weeks, he has made daily decisions on which locations need to close early, and when, because of a shortage of workers.
“We’ve modified operations so that we can serve our guests in a reasonable amount of time,” Robertson said, “so we are looking at it on a case-by-case decision.”
After a year of dealing with shutdowns, capacity limits and mask requirements, the restaurant industry been hit with yet another potentially devastating challenge. ....

But this year, they wanted to do more.
“The real benefit we saw with this is that the farmers market serves as an effective means to set up a time and space to connect with the local community,” Coilin Walsh said. “And it’s close to where you are, and that was a big reason we decided to join.” ....

Resale to the Rescue opens home decor store, adds cookie business Chips and Doodles popup

A local not-for-profit resale store has opened a second location that also doubles as a donation drop off point and as a new popup home for a local cookie shop.
Resale to the Rescue, a retail store that sells donated items and gives proceeds to local animal groups, opened its home décor store in February merely four doors down from its first location at 905 W. McKinley Ave., in Mishawaka.
Founder Jan Caudell said the group rented the space at 805 W. McKinley Ave. next to Cricket Wireless in order to provide a space for such donated items as clothing, home décor and knickknacks to “de-cootie-fy” for 72 hours in light of the coronavirus pandemic. Caudell said the three-day quarantine for items is not mandated by local or state officials, but said she got the idea from a social media group with other similarly structured businesses who enacted similar protocols. ....
