GGRAsia – Macau visitor arrivals to rise 20pct in Golden Week: police


The average daily number of visitor arrivals to Macau during the upcoming Labour Day Golden Week holiday period is likely to increase by around 20 percent compared with a previous peak earlier this month, and is therefore likely to surpass the 40,000 mark. That is according to a forecast from the city’s police.
A police representative explained in a press conference that one reason for the positive forecast was that authorities in mainland China had not introduced any additional travel restrictions nor issued statements advising people to avoid travelling during the upcoming holiday period.
China’s State Council has designated the first five days of May as the Labour Day break for this year. Mainland China currently has a quarantine-free travel bubble with Macau, and is presently the main source of Macau’s tourists. ....

GGRAsia – Macau daily GGR may reach US$50mln over May break: ops


Macau’s gaming industry might see further sequential improvement in mass gaming volume during the upcoming five-day break surrounding Labour Day on May 1, with average daily casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) possibly reaching “MOP400 million” (US$50 million), said Ambrose So Shu Fai, vice-chairman and chief executive of Macau casino operator SJM Holdings Ltd. His comments were cited by Hong Kong-based Chinese-language media outlet the Hong Kong Economic Journal.
Mr So said he was “confident” of the sector being able to achieve MOP400-million average daily GGR tally during the early May break.

Hong Kong to Fire 129 Civil Servants Who Refused to Pledge Allegiance

Authorities in Hong Kong on Monday announced plans to start terminate the contracts of civil servants who refused to take an oath of allegiance to the Hong Kong govermment.
Secretary for the Civil Service Patrick Nip told lawmakers that 129 out of 170,000 civil servants haven t signed a written declaration of loyalty, with some writing on the form that the requirement infringed their right to free speech.
The declaration vows that the officials will bear allegiance to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China . and be responsible to the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. ....
