Tumakuru trucker thrashed in Maharashtra for speaking in Kannada | Hubballi News

Govinda
BELAGAVI: Barely weeks after the Shiv Sena raked up the border dispute, a truck driver from Tumakuru was allegedly thrashed for speaking in Kannada at the Maharashtra border.
Govinda was waylaid late Friday night near the Satara tollgate in Maharashtra by six persons when he was ferrying goods from Ahmedabad to Bengaluru. He fled for safety, leaving behind the vehicle after informing its owner.
Athani DySP Girish, on the instructions of Belagavi SP, went with Govinda when he filed a complaint at Satara police station. Girish said: “Four of the six men were arrested on Saturday evening.”
Posing as policemen, the six men stopped the vehicle. They asked Govinda to get down and demanded to see his documents. He spoke in Kannada while taking out the vehicle documents. “The men shouted at me in Marathi and told me to speak in their language,” he said.

Road between Indi Pump Circle and Manjunath Nagar to be concretised | Hubballi News

Among the primary features on the proposed concrete road include the routing of all the wires, cables and pipelines through an underground duct
HUBBALLI: As part of the efforts to enhance the visual appeal of some of the city’s thoroughfares, the authorities have decided to transform the street between Indi Pump Circle and Manjunath Nagar into a concrete road, along the lines of streets that have been refurbished under the TenderSURE project. Work on concretisation of the eight-kilometre road is expected to get under way soon.
MLA Arvind Bellad said that, although the road was slated to be developed using money allocated under the Central Road Fund (CRF), a contractor who was assigned the task had walked away from the project owing to delay in the disbursement of funds. “Those contracted under CRF are not being paid regularly,” Bellad rued.

Sales of national flag down, weavers in distress in Hubballi | Hubballi News

The unit was in the doldrums after the pandemic hit as it suffered a shortage of manpower and raw materials after the nationwide lockdown was imposed
HUBBALLI: Karnataka Khadi Gramodyoga Samyukta Sangh (KKGSS), Hubballi, the only authorised national flag production unit in the state, had pinned hopes of a revival on Republic Day, but weavers have been left a disappointed lot as sales fell by 60%.
