he said, "i'm going to make you get down on your knees. get down on your knees." at that point, i reached in my chair and i got up like this. and i know i stared right at him, and i may have shaken my head like this, i don't recall, but i know i mouthed "no". and just that glare was the first time that we had shown any aggression toward him. we weren't subservient at that point. he started backing away immediately, and he went and sat down. now, i didn't see him put his gun down, but i did see him go to pour some soda. and when he did that, rabbi charlie picked up the chair, threw it, yelled "run". i didn't see the chair go until i was running. i tripped as i was going out, and we've got a hedgerow there, and i thought that i was going to go through the hedgerow. i started climbing under it. you fell to the ground and had to get up. and were you worried that he was going to catch you and kill you? i mean, yes, a little bit, but i was more concentrated
of quota. >> so a couple things on this. he represents the black estate in the union, mississippi, but on top of that, i don't recall hearing anything about ronald reagan campaigning on nominating the first woman to the supreme court. i don't remember hearing anything about clarence thomas who replaced the first black justice on the court. i don't remember hearing anything about president trump saying it's going to be a woman and then picking amy coney barrett. so republicans are trying to -- well, i mean, we shouldn't be surprised by this, right? >> look, they're going to have to settle on what their message is and in talking to republicans last week it was clear that that message they haven't quite formulated that yet. we do know that the supreme court confirmation process has become so viciously and intensely partisan, no matter how qualified someone is it's going to come down almost along party lines these days. that is the way that it has
substantive information we have received. their interaction was significant. jordan was among a group of republican leaders who attempted to object to the certification and he's been evasive to what communication he had with the former president and at what time. at different points he said he couldn't remember how many time he spoke to him. he said he only believed he spoke to him at the end of the day. today he had yet another version of events of that day. listen to what he had to say. >> i have no more calls with -- i talked to the president but i don't remember the times. >> you don't remember if it was the morning? if in was one in the morning? >> i don't recall. i know i talked to him after we left off floor. >> reporter: that's significant for a number of reasons. that's first time jordan has ever revealed to anyone that he believe he spoke to trump as he
trying to stop the certification of the 2020 presidential election. and the two spoke before congress met to go through that certification process. now, jordan himself has said that he spoke with trump, but he's been very unclear about when he spoke with the former president, how long that conversation lasted. i spoke with congressman jordan yesterday in the hallways of congress to try to nail down these details. take a reason to what he had to say. >> as i said, i had no more calls with -- i talked to the president a couple times a day, but i don't remember the times. so i don't remember. >> you don't remember if it was the morning, if there was one in the morning before? >> i don't recall, but i know i talked to him after we left office. >> so you don't remember if there was one before the
the morning? if there was one in the morning? >> i don't recall. i know i talked to him after we left off the floor but i don't recall. >> okay. so, andrew, the committee has been reluctant to subpoena lawmakers. what are their options? if they don't subpoena the lawmakers? >> come on. subpoena this guy. for god's sake. we know he is on the record having said that he did not talk to him in the morning. now we know that he did talk to him in the morning. the committee has a job to do here and the job is to bring him in and ask him these questions in a pointed and direct way and back up the questions with the record we now have. congressman jordan has a history of conveniently not remembering things that may have come to his attention earlier in his life. so i would say they need to drill to the bottom of this thing no matter what it takes.

on the hill trying to help trump in his efforts to stop the election certification process. now, jordan has admitted that he spoke with trump on that day, but he's been very evasive and unclear about how long that phone call was, how many times a day they spoke. what time of day they spoke. so i spoke with congressman jordan in the halls of congress yesterday to try and pin down some of the details, take a listen to what he had to say. >> as i said, i had a number of calls with -- i talk to the president a couple times a day, but i don't remember the times. >> you don't remember if it was the morning? if there was one in the morning. >> i don't recall, but i know i talked to him after we left off the floor, but i don't know -- >> so as you can see, congressman jordan not wanting to get more specific there. and these are key details, conversations that the committee
do. >> it's interesting, you know, when you go through all of jim jordan's comments about, you know, when and how many times he's spoke within trump on that day day, it's kind of all over the place. but this line of, i don't recall, i don't remember, can you give us the legal -- like a background for giving such an answer? we hear that all the time at, you know, hearings and depositions. what's the point of saying "i don't recall"? >> so that they don't get caught in a direct lie. if they say, i did not do it, then evidence comes forward like this telephone record that there was a ten-minute call at 11:45, then that's a lie. so they don't remember conveniently so they don't make an affirmative statement which could be proven to be untrue. whether it is in fact true that they don't remember, you know, it's anyone's guess, but oftentimes what happens is they're confronted with the evidence of the call and they say, ah, that refreshes my
calls with -- i talked to the president a couple of times but i don't remember the times. >> you don't remember if it was the morning? >> i don't recall, but i know i talked to him after we left off the floor. >> as you can see from his answer, jim jordan is not wanting to be specific about those conversations with trump, which is part of why the january 6th committee really wants to hear from him. they asked jim jordan to voluntarily cooperate with their investigation. jordan has so far refused to do so. the committee is currently weighing whether or not they want to subpoena jordan, which would be an unprecedented step to get that information they need. the big picture here is the january 6th committee is trying to write the definitive narrative of what happened in the lead-up to and on january 6th. and this call in the morning of january 6th between trump and
now, basically every time jim jordan has been asked about his communications with donald trump, he's given a different answer. at one point he said he couldn't remember. at one time he said he talked to him in the morning, during the attacking after the attack, and then he told the house rules committee he only talked to him once and that was after the attack. the chairman of the rules committee jim mcgovern saw our report, saw what jim jordan said in response to our report and said that directly contradicted his testimony to the rules committee back in october. in fact, when we asked jim jordan about our new reporting on friday, he had yet another answer to when he spoke -- about when he spoke to the former president. this is what he said on friday. >> like i say, i had a number of calls with -- i talked to the president a couple of times a day, but i don't remember the time. >> you don't remember if it was the morning? if there was one in the morning? >> i don't recall, but i know i
