Clean up ongoing, D12 Snowfighters prepare for overnight snow, morning ice

Each county in Highway District 12 is under a National Weather Service Winter Storm Warning tonight through tomorrow, Thursday, February 18. Heavy, wet snow is expected to start in Knott County around 9 p.m. and spread quickly. The precipitation will move through Lawrence, Johnson, and northwestern Floyd County as it travels east. The rest of Floyd and Knott, plus Martin, Pike, and Letcher could see precipitation as early as 10 p.m.
The only question about the forecast, according to the Jackson Office, NWS, is whether Letcher and Pike counties get snow or rain. Snow accumulations up to six inches are expected in every county except Letcher, where the amount of snow is estimated at three to five inches. There is a chance, however, that a warm air mass moving from south to north could limit Letcher and parts of Pike County to rain.
