Launch Factory Finds $2.5M For Venture Studio

Launch Factory a new venture studio which is looking to recruit entrepeneurs to help it launch vetted business concepts, recently raised $2.5M in funding, according to the group. The funding came from a number of angels, including Broadway Angels, San Diego Venture Partners, and TI Platform Management. According to the startup studio it plans to use the funding to launch four new startups in San Diego, investing $300K in seed capital in each of those companies. The new startup studio was co-founded by Brad Chisum, James Hereford, and Kimberly Davis King. Launch Factory said its concept is different than traditional accelerators and incubators, in that the studio vets its own future business concepts, and selects the opportunities it wants to fund and launch. ....

With any new ag product, a farmer wants to know how it has performed on an actual farm - not just in trials. To help showcase their crop nutrition products, YARA International has taken the step to start an incubator farm program. Here’s Devin Clarke, who is the permanent crops manager for YARA North America.
Clarke…”We felt a need to explore this concept of an incubator farm so that we could find several collaborators in different regions on different crops. This one that I work on is particularly with almonds. The kind of collaborator that we can make a commitment with for a long period of time - 10 years will be this commitment here - and be able to have greater control and commitment from that collaborator to explore fertility management in the way that we feel is going to help move the industry forward.” ....

Bolt created shared workspaces in Boston and San Francisco that provided desks and a machine shop for startups designing consumer electronics products.Bolt
The COVID-19 pandemic will soon force the closing of the first incubator space to create a hub for startups in downtown Boston, giving fledgling ventures a reason to locate in the city rather than in Cambridge or Somerville.
Bolt, which opened in 2013 between Downtown Crossing and Chinatown, will close its doors at the end of March, according to cofounder Axel Bichara. Just two startups currently occupy a facility designed for a dozen or more, and featuring a fully outfitted machine shop in its basement. ....
