More children are getting infected in the second wave of coronavirus in India

After sweeping India, fierce Covid-19 waves hit other developing nations


It’s not just India. Fierce new Covid-19 waves are enveloping other developing countries across the world, placing severe strain on their health-care systems and prompting appeals for help.
Nations ranging from Laos to Thailand in Southeast Asia, and those bordering India such as Bhutan and Nepal, have been reporting significant surges in infections in the past few weeks. The increase is mainly because of more contagious virus variants, though complacency and lack of resources to contain the spread have also been cited as reasons.
In Laos last week, the health minister sought medical equipment, supplies and treatment, as cases jumped more than 200-fold in a month. Nepal is seeing hospitals quickly filling up and running out of oxygen supplies. Health facilities are under pressure in Thailand, where 98% of new cases are from a more infectious strain of the pathogen, while some island nations in the Pacific Ocean are facing their first Covid waves. ....

Covid aid to India: Oxygen production plant, 20 ventilators arrive from Italy

Batra Hospital in Delhi on Saturday informed the High Court that a doctor was among those who died after the facility ran out of oxygen amid the devastating second wave of the pandemic.
India recorded 4,01,993 cases on Saturday morning, the highest ever since the pandemic began last year, setting a new global record of single-day infections. With this, the country’s tally of infections rose to 1,91,64,969. The toll climbed to 2,11,853 after 3,523 new deaths were registered in 24 hours. ....

Chinese medical suppliers are working overtime on orders from India, at least 25000 orders for oxygen concentrators in recent days. Cargo planes are under plan for medical supplies. Chinese customs will facilitate relevant process, Sun Weidong, the Chinese Ambassador to India, tweeted.
Earlier this week, it was reported that China s state-run Sichuan Airlines had suspended all its cargo flights to India for 15 days.
