County agencies submit profiling reports

The Henderson County Commissioners Court approved year 2020 racial profiling reports for three departments at a special meeting, Friday, in advance of the March 1 deadline.
The report detailing traffic stops made by law enforcement entities are required by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
The 2020 Henderson County Sheriff s Office report shows 1,759 contacts with drivers where either warnings or citations were issued. About 86% of the stops involved White drivers. There were 155 Black and 88 Hispanic drivers included in the stops.
That was really down from the year 2019 by probably 1,000 stops, Sheriff Botie Hillhouse said.
The reason for the drop was fewer patrol deputies on the road due to COVID-19. ....

L.A. Times wants federal court to unseal search warrant documents about FBI seizure of Burr's cellphone


A legal action was filed Tuesday requesting that a federal court unseal records related to the seizure of U.S. Sen. Richard Burr’s cellphone by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The action was filed by Los Angeles Times Communications LLC in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
The filing had not appeared in the federal court filing website www.pacer.gov as of Tuesday night.
A tweet posted Tuesday contains the first four pages of the filing, including a synopsis of the request and the first graphs describing the background of the action.
The L.A. Times was the first to report on May 13 that FBI agents came to Burr’s home in the Washington area with a search warrant for the cellphone. The newspaper cited an anonymous law-enforcement source. ....

Political cartoons help bride the political divide


All throughout February, Wyoming Humanities has invited keen observers of human nature to try their hands at helping political cartoonists do what they do every day.
Its first caption contest, organized by Wyoming’s nonprofit affiliate of the National Endowment of the Humanities, invited people to find the right words to pair with two original political cartoons by two Wyoming artists.
The time to announce the winners has come: In a livestream event set for noon Friday, Wyoming Humanities will dish out cash prizes to three caption writers per cartoon, and Wyoming Humanities will sit down with the artists to discuss their processes and how they have made careers in the unique genre. ....
