Most Wisconsin lawmakers say they plan on getting COVID-19 vaccine


Virtually all of the Wisconsin lawmakers who responded to a Wisconsin State Journal inquiry said they have or plan to get the COVID-19 vaccine — although the few who say they won’t and the majority of those who didn’t respond are Republicans.
The State Journal this week asked each member of the Wisconsin Legislature and the state’s congressional delegation if they had received the COVID-19 vaccine or if they planned to do so. Several lawmakers on both sides of the aisle said they plan to get vaccinated once they become eligible. On Monday, eligibility expands to all Wisconsin residents age 16 and older. ....

Western Native Voice Political Director gives statement after HB 613 fails to pass third reading in house


HELENA, Mont. - An act that aimed to revise election procedures on Native American reservations failed to pass the third reading in the house.
HB 613, Native American Rights Act, failed by a vote of 48 to 51 a release from Western Native Voice says.
Keaton Sunchild, Western Native Voice Political Director gave the following statement regarding the bill failing to pass:
“The Governor’s office and House Republicans had a chance to work alongside us in a bipartisan fashion to create fair and equal access to the ballot, but failed to do so.”
“House Bill 613 received strong bipartisan support in committee and was great voting rights legislation that would have demonstrated a strong commitment to the value of one person, one vote. Although we are very disappointed that House 613 did not pass, Western Native Voice will continue the necessary work of protecting voting rights and making voting a tradition in tribal nations. Those are the questions I found myself asking after I spoke to a panel of gun violence reduction activists this week. It was two nights after the murders in Boulder, a week after the rampage in Atlanta, and hours after the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee played out a drama so reliably scripted that it felt like even the players involved knew they were playing a role.
Even over Zoom, in the early hours of the evening, the frustration among my fellow panelists was palpable. I couldn’t see the slumped shoulders, but I could certainly feel them.
