Bode George, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has ascribed the loss of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the February 25, 2023, presidential election to the withdrawal of support by the PDP’s aggrieved governors under the umbrella of G-5 governors and other members of the party under Integrity Group. The G-5 is made up of five PDP governors — Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo) and Nyesom Wike (Rivers).

    Contrary to the beliefs of many people, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo urged his supporters to vote and support all candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from “top to bottom” in last’s Saturday general elections.   Makinde gave the advice in a newsletter obtained by SaharaReporters which was shared on Thursday, two days to the poll.  

The presidential poll held over the weekend in Nigeria had come and gone with winners and losers emerging. But controversies have trailed its outcome.

An internal crisis is brewing in the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) after a group of members demanded the immediate resignation of the association’s President, Comrade Usman Umar Barambu over “incompetence and lack of capacity.” The members led by one Umar Farouk Gazali, Convener, NANS Integrity Group, noted that the apex Nigerian students' body had been an integral part of struggle for the emancipation of the common people of the country.
