'I also want to acknowledge the Mystery Road series and what it says about Australia, our identity, and our history. I am so proud it is a First Nations series that is the top-rating drama on Australian television,' he said. 
Aaron also thanked filmmaker Ivan Sen for creating the character of Detective Jay Swan, which he said was the 'role of a lifetime'.

ABC TV Mystery Road star Aaron Pedersen has won the inaugural AACTA International Award for Best Actor in a Series, trumping a strong field of nominees from Europe and the United States.
Pedersen’s role as Detective Jay Swan in the Indigenous-led drama series was recognised by members of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts in the peer-judged award, which honours the best achievements in screen excellence from around the world.
The other nominees for the Best Actor in a Series Award were Jason Bateman for Ozark, Hugh Grant for The Undoing, Daniel Levy for Schitt’s Creek and Paul Mescal for Normal People.

Emerald Fennell’s “Promising Young Woman” has won Best Picture at the 10th Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) International Awards. Carey Mulligan also scooped the Best Lead Actress in Film award for the film.
Other winners include “Nomadland” director Chloé Zhao, who became the first woman to receive the AACTA International Award for Best Direction in Film.

Nominees have been announced in the AACTA International Awards, normally presented in LA.
This year the awards include 4 Television categories with nominees including
The Crown, The Mandalorian, Mystery Road, Schitt’s Creek and
After Life.
AACTA CEO Damian Trewhella said: “2020 was an extraordinary year for the global screen industry. We all experienced varying degrees of lockdowns but one thing that united us all was the enjoyment and escapism we got from film and television and audiences devoured content in astonishing numbers. Shows like Normal People, The Crown, The Mandalorian, I May Destroy You and Schitt’s Creek were watched across the world and our own productions like Mystery Road stood up alongside the best.”
