The tweak in stance is for ‘strategically important countries’ with which India is seeking closer economic integration after exiting the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, a China-led mega trade deal.
The change in the approach comes at a time when India is negotiating investment treaties alongside free trade agreements with some top trading partners, including the UK and EU.

The EU Commissioner for Trade, Valdis Dombrovskis, stated that progress has been made in the FTA negotiations but there is still much work to be done.
