Barbara Pace Hunt was the lead plaintiff in a 1959 landmark case against the state of Georgia to fight school segregation.
In 1954, despite threats from the KKK, three Black women sued what would become Georgia State to enroll at the college. Their determination created a landmark case that would go on to be used in the successful desegregation of GSU and other schools.
Myra Payne Elliot was one of three women who sued in federal court to desegregate Georgia State University and won in 1956.
