Breadth turns negative; metal stocks extend losses


Barometers extended losses and hit fresh intraday low in early afternoon trade. The Nifty held the 14,600 mark. Metal stocks corrected for third day.
At 12:24 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 73.44 points or 0.15% at 48,617.98. The Nifty 50 index declined 54 points or 0.37% to 14,642.60.
In broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index was down 1.12% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index fell 1.17%.
The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 1176 shares rose and 1724 shares fell. A total of 162 shares were unchanged.

The NSE s India VIX, a gauge of market s expectation of volatility over the near term, rose 2.46% to 20.575. The Nifty 27 May 2021 futures were trading at 14,646.50, at a premium of 40.5 points as compared with the spot at 14,606. ....

Benchmarks turn range bound; breadth strong


Key barometers were trading in a narrow range with strong gains in the afternoon trade. At 13:20 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, soared 523.21 points or 1.09% at 48,401.66. The Nifty 50 index gained 147.35 points or 1.03% at 14,488.70.
HDFC (down 0.25%), HDFC Bank (down 0.61%) and HCL Technologies (down 3.16%) were major drags. ICICI Bank (up 4.70%), Reliance Industries (up 2.11%) and Axis Bank (up 3.71%) supported the indices.
The broader market lagged the benchmarks. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index rose 0.76%. The S&P BSE Small-Cap index added 0.90%.
Buyers outpaced sellers. On the BSE, 1,905 shares rose and 932 shares fell. A total of 202 shares were unchanged.
Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 1,360.76 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs), were net buyers to the tune of Rs 1,695.59 crore in the Indian equity market on 23 April 2021, provisional data showed. ....

Benchmarks trade with small gains; metal stocks in demand


The key equity benchmarks traded with minor gains in morning trade. Metal stocks rose for seventh day. The Nifty hovered near the 14,700 mark.
At 10:24 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was up 130.63 points or 0.27% to 49,289.95. The Nifty 50 index added 53.60 points or 0.37% to 14,691.40.
In broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index gained 0.71% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index rose 0.80%.
The market breadth was weak. On the BSE, 1644 shares rose and 778 shares fell. A total of 111 shares were unchanged.

Total COVID-19 confirmed cases worldwide stood at 131,707,267 with 2,859,868 deaths.

Nifty reclaims 14,600 mark; breadth remains weak


The benchmark indices pared losses in afternoon trade as buying emerged at lower levels. At 13:20 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, dropped 956.03 points or 1.91% at 49,073.80. The Nifty 50 index skid 264.05 points or 1.78% at 14,603.30. A spike in domestic coronavirus cases and fresh curbs imposed by the state government dented investors sentiment.
ICICI Bank (down 3.70%), HDFC (down 3.15%) and HDFC Bank (down 2.37%) were major drags.
Selling was broad based. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index fell 1.40%. The S&P BSE Small-Cap index slipped 1.26%.
Sellers outnumbered buyers. On the BSE, 834 shares rose and 1,988 shares fell. A total of 186 shares were unchanged.
