Not just Remdesivir; crucial COVID medicines, consumables are depleting fast [details]

Karnataka govt fixes ICU, ward charges for COVID treatment in private hospitals
From centre to state and cities to towns, the shortage of oxygen, ICU beds and Remdesivir has sent a wave of panic and distress. People are running from pillar to post in attempts to procure an oxygen tank or vials of Remdesivir and even ICU beds when both attempts fail. As if that's not enough, there's another wave of shortage being reported in hospitals and a Bengaluru doctor has sounded the alarm so necessary preparations can be made.
The lack of preparation for the second deadly wave of COVID-19 resulted in high demand for Remdesivir and oxygen tanks. Hospitals have been overrun by patients seeking emergency medical treatment. As the pandemic continues and there's no relief in sight, hospitals are soon going to be in a spot with shortage of other crucial medicines and consumables. As it appears, no one has spotted the deficiency. Those who have aren't being heard enough.

Hospitals are fighting covid-19 with 40% less staff and are looking for volunteers to defeat the virus
It’s not just ordinary people who are facing a shortage of
beds, medicines, oxygen, drugs, ventilators, plasma ... Hospitals too are facing a shortage - of manpower. So bad is the shortage - about 40 per cent - that hospitals are now sending an SOS to the State Government seeking the support of volunteers.
Dr Prasanna H M, the president of the
Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association (PHANA) said, “Many doctors are falling sick despite taking the vaccination and due to covid fatigue. Hence, we are working with only 50 to 60 per cent of the staff. If this situation continues, then absenteeism may increase and the health infrastructure will crumble. The only option is to use volunteers. I want the government to take the lead in calling volunteers for every hospital.”

BENGALURU: Last year, when Covid cases had peaked, there was a considerable drop in the number of outpatients and elective surgery footfalls in hospitals. Come 2021, a similar trend is apparent.
With the second wave setting in, a few hospitals are seeing footfalls dipping to the tune of 60-70 per cent.

Vaccine hesitancy among the 45+ population could be holding up the protection that the

On March 19, this 38-year old resident of KR Puram, was prescribed a course of antibiotics for his fever. When his condition did not improve after a few days, a RT-PCT test showed that he was covid-positive. Though he did not have any other symptoms, he got himself admitted to a hospital in Hebbal and even then a CT scan of his lungs showed no sign of a lung infection. But from there on his health worsened. He was also a witness to another 31-year-old in his room, deteriorating, and not responding to treatment. “When the virus started attacking my lungs, I faced the worst moments of my life. I couldn’t breathe, talk or even sleep. I felt I need to talk to my wife before things worsened. Though I tried to hide what I was going through to protect her, realised I was taking a long time to speak. I was choking and no words were coming out of my mouth. I found it hard to breathe and speak. She realised that I was critical and sought special permission from the doctor to come and see me in a PPE kit. Her presence gave me the courage to fight back. But the doctors had to change the course of treatment twice to save me,” said the 38-year old who had to remain in the hospital for 14 days, and pay a hospital bill of Rs 2.2 lakh. Even though he is discharged now, his

BENGALURU: Vaccination against Covid-19 is safe, and the sooner people take their shots, the faster the goal of herd immunity will be achieved, senior doctors say. Vaccination is a process that will lead to herd immunity, said Dr Jagadish Hiremath, medical director at Ace Multi-specialty Hospital. “But this will take time and will require at least 70% of the population to get vaccinated,” he said.
Member of the state’s Critical Care Support Team, Dr Anoop Amarnath, said that people must accept the benefits of vaccination and get their shots to achieve herd immunity. “It is important to reach (large) volumes (of people).
