Ford Kenya's Majimbo Kalasinga wins Kabuchai parliamentary by-election

Amos Wekesa of the Federal Party of Kenya came a distant third with 1,454 votes (5 per cent) followed by Dr Gasper Wafubwa at the fourth position after he garnered 1,236 votes (4 per cent).
Voter turnout was 51.68 per cent and the total votes cast were 29,798. There were 320 rejected votes.
The constituency has a total of 57, 654 registered voters

Majimbo now becomes the second legislator for Kabuchai Constituency and will succeed James Mukwe Lusweti who died in December last year after battling arthritis for a long time.

A former personal assistant to Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati has been ejected from his Milimani home and his property thrown out.
Stan Wepundi who was demoted from being the governor’s PA to a research assistant was recently evicted from the house by county enforcement officers around 10am, and given 30 minutes to vacate the premises.
The former PA was absent during the eviction.
County enforcement officers arrived at his Milimani home and began throwing out property.
Wepundi’s wife pleaded with the officers to give them some time as she tried to reach her husband on phone, but was denied.

Major political parties have unleashed their top guns in Matungu and Kabuchai constituencies as campaigns for the by-elections enter the homestretch.
Top party officials and MPs from Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Ford Kenya, Amani National Congress (ANC) and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) have pitched tent in the two constituencies to drum up support for their candidates ahead of the Thursday polls.
Matungu and Kabuchai seats fell vacant following the deaths of MPs Justus Murunga in November and James Mukwe Lusweti in December.

Kabuchai mini poll is battle of wits between Wetang'ula, Ruto

The forthcoming Kabuchai by-election is likely to be a battle of wits between Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula (
pictured) and Deputy President William Ruto.
While Mr Wetang’ula would be pulling all stops to ensure his Ford Kenya party retains the seat, Dr Ruto would be seeking a win for his Tangatanga team to boost his 2022 presidential bid.
The seat fell vacant following the death of James Mukwe Lusweti in December last year.
Lusweti and Bungoma Woman Rep Catherine Wambilianga were the only elected leaders from the county who stood with Wetang’ula during recent attempted coup to remove him from the helm of Ford Kenya party leadership.

All eyes on Western region as Ruto and Raila shift focus

Deputy President William Ruto yesterday landed in Western three days after scoring a mega win in the Msambweni by-election.
Buoyed by the victory against ODM and its leader Raila Odinga, Ruto appears to be shifting focus to the two by-elections slated for March 2021 in Matungu and Kabuchai constituencies.
The seats fell vacant following the deaths of MPs Justus Murunga Makkah and James Mukwe Lusweti respectively. Murunga was an ANC MP but a Ruto ally at the time of his death, was buried two weeks ago at Makunda village.
Lusweti, a second-term Ford-Kenya MP, will be buried today at his rural home in Sanandiki village.
