For a minute you and say, really? is that safe? >> well, they're not going to go up in a 747, they're probably not even going to go up in a jet. a prop plane can survive a trip around an ash cloud a lot better than a jet can. with jets, this is the thing to stress, is that, you know, pulling that particle, those particles, through a jet engine, that's the really dangerous thing, so it's just a commonsense precaution that you wouldn't put a planeful of passengers in harm's way, but a group of trained scientists in a specially designed plane can probably do it. >> jay ford with "popular science....
