[applause] the National Book awards are a huge part of that mission, and it is a thrill to be here with everyone tonight recognizing exceptional literature and increasing the visibility of books which are among the most powerful weapons we have against what has lately felt like an often hostile world. I think this past year has felt overwhelming and disheartening to many people. Its also felt exhausting for women, for people of color, for immigrants, for muslims, for the lgbtq community, for so many groups. To remain on the defensive in nearly every waking hour takes its toll. For some of us, books provide a welcome escape into someone elses world. For others they serve as a valuable resource for arming ourselves with indispensabling knowledge of history. But all books offer something we need so desperately right now; broadened perspective. Books allow us to view circumstances through the eyes of someone else. They cultivate empath ....
Livestock, or mail for short. And youre in charge of everything there. Well, agriculture is life. Its the backbone of our economy. Its a huge responsibility for me. It is a h and youre the youngest member of president ghanis cabinet. Thats right. So no pressure at all. Well, that added responsibility because 75 of our population are youth, age 30 or below. 75 . 75 of our population. Wow. So that added responsibility that i have to do well. Yes, lot of pressure. So, because youre working with agriculture and i know that afghanistan is 80 agricultural and just because of all the wars and war problems in your country, you have a long way to go. And agriculture is the solution. Mmhmm. Without investing in agriculture, well not be able to have longterm stability. Like you said, agriculture is the backbone of our economy. 80 is engaged in agriculture, so thats the only way to go ahead with. Traditionally, in the past, for centuries, we have been involved with agriculture. And used to be, in ....
