Perfectly well why you can t do that kind of thing. does a cabinet member like mattis have a responsibility to ignore an unlawful order like that to kill another world leader, and is there any responsibility to report that type of order? what is the legal bearing for officials who are given unlawful orders? well, i think in that case like this, it s incumbent upon the cabinet secretary in this case, the secretary of defense, to talk to the president why something like that is illegal under u.s. law and talk him down from the idea and explain to him why we can t do that but we can do this and work through it. i suspect that s the way it played out in this case, and it wasn t as though the secretary simply ignored it. all right. fair enough. katy benner, greg bauer, and ....
