Governor Murphy Announces Nominations for Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Board of Commissioners
TRENTON – Governor Murphy today announced his intent to nominate Michelle Richardson, Dana Martinotti, and Robert Menendez, Jr. to the Board of Commissioners of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The Governor also announced his intent to re-nominate Commissioner Kevin McCabe.
“It is my pleasure to nominate this group of experienced and capable professionals to the Board of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey,”
said Governor Murphy. “I know that Michelle, Dana, and Rob will continue and build upon the great work that Kevin and the other Commissioners have done over the years.” ....

This week marks a year since the coronavirus pandemic began upending the US economy, costing millions of people their jobs and forcing them onto unemployment benefits.
Those who are still out of work could soon start getting notices from their state unemployment agencies advising them that they are approaching their benefit year end date which happens 52 weeks after an initial claim is filed. ....

The 'benefit year end': A tough Covid anniversary for the unemployed

Unhappy anniversary, jobless Americans.
This week marks a year since the coronavirus pandemic began upending the US economy, costing millions of people their jobs and forcing them onto unemployment benefits.
Those who are still out of work could soon start getting notices from their state unemployment agencies advising them that they are approaching their benefit year end date which happens 52 weeks after
an initial claim is filed.
Typically, the end of the benefit year means the jobless would have to establish a new claim to determine eligibility for benefits and to recalculate their payment amount based on more recent earnings. ....

Labor Department launches $2M pre-apprenticeship training grant program

The New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development announced Wednesday that $2 million in grant funding will be available through the Pre-Apprenticeship in Career Education training program.
Pre-apprenticeship programs funded through PACE provide education and training that prepare participants for placement into a Registered Apprenticeship program, into a post-secondary college or occupation-specific career training program, or into the workforce.
PACE programs must have a documented partnership with at least one Registered Apprenticeship program sponsor. Together, these programs expand career pathways with industry-based training and classroom instruction, leading to better-paying positions and advanced credentials.
Gov. Phil Murphy has long supported apprenticeship programs. ....

Contactless Automat Kitchen opens in Jersey City
Jersey City’s new Automat Kitchen has opened at 525 Washington Blvd. with a chef-curated menu of modern comfort food made to order and a technology-driven contactless experience that fits diners’ needs.
Customers can order in advance on their phone or online, or at the location by scanning a QR code to connect to the menu and ordering system. There are kiosk screens at the location where orders can be placed without interacting with anyone. The guest then receives a code via text to click on to unlock the cubby/locker when the order is ready. The orders can be scheduled for a specific time as well. Order status will be displayed on the screens above the cubbies when received and when ready, the cubby number. ....
