Men's Slalom taken by Norway

CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, Italy — The Norwegian ski team arrived at the world championships without many of its injured stars. It left on Sunday with two gold medals and a bronze.
Sebastian Foss-Solevåg triumphed in the concluding event, the men’s slalom, while fellow Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen took the bronze.
The success came four days after Foss-Solevåg led Norway to gold in the team event.
“It’s a dream, two golds in Cortina. That’s incredible,” he said.
The Norway team was missing Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, Adrian Smiseth Sejersted, Lucas Braathen and Atle Lie McGrath, all due to knee injuries, which mainly affected its chances in the speed events and the giant slalom.

College racers descend on tech events at Cortina worlds

College racers descend on tech events at Cortina worlds
NCAA racers are well-represented in this year’s world championships tech events, as they have been at every world champs and Olympics in recent years. Eight of the 17 NCAA athletes competing in Cortina are “Pios,” Denver University Pioneers.
The national team featuring the highest number of collegiate athletes is Canada. Their 13-member roster includes six current or former NCAA skiers. The nation with the next most NCAA representation is the U.S. with four, followed by Norway, Croatia, Brazil and Greece each with one NCAA skier. Between them, these skiers represent five different colleges. While many eastern schools are not competing on the EISA circuit this year, current athletes from western schools headed to Cortina straight from their RMISA competitions in Utah.

January 26, 2021
SCHLADMING, Austria – Right after finishing his second run and taking the lead in the race, Marco Schwarz held up one finger.
There were still five more racers to come down at the World Cup night slalom on Tuesday, but the Austrian held on to his No. 1 position.
Schwarz improved from sixth after the opening run to win by a big margin, 0.68 seconds ahead of Clément Noël. Another French skier, Alexis Pinturault, was 0.82 behind in third.
“It’s amazing, it’s the classic to win,” Schwarz said. “Schladming was on top of my wish list. To win here was a big dream.”

Strasser ends 3-year German drought to win in Zagreb

Strasser ends 3-year German drought to win in Zagreb
January 6, 2021
ZAGREB, Croatia – Right after becoming the first German skier in more than three years to win a men’s World Cup slalom, Linus Strasser looked up in the air and fought back tears.
He knew the winning feeling from a previous victory in a city event, but not from a slalom.
“I got a little bit emotional. I don’t really realize it,” Strasser said Wednesday after triumphing in the first men’s race of 2021.
The previous German slalom winner was Felix Neureuther, who won in Levi, Finland, in November 2017.
