The video of Chauvin’s neck on Floyd’s neck for more than nine minutes was damning enough. There was more, though. Throughout the ordeal, the smug, superior expression on Chauvin’s face told volumes about the disregard he had for Floyd’s life.

Lawmakers seeking to lower drug costs should take a comprehensive approach rather than focus solely on manufacturers’ pricing practices—a strategy that’s only created disparities in the marketplace, policy analysts say.
Drug pricing will come back to the forefront of policy discussions in the coming months as Covid-19 vaccines become more readily available and lawmakers turn to other issues. But many of the roughly two dozen bills floating around Congress primarily address the prices drug companies set and ignore other aspects of the supply chain, including the pharmacy middlemen that control how insurance pays for medications. ....

What to Know in Washington: Biden to Detail Afghanistan Exit

President Joe Biden will withdraw U.S. troops from Afghanistan by Sept. 11, the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that precipitated the American invasion that ousted the country’s Taliban leadership, according to people familiar with the plan.
Biden will speak today at 2:15 p.m. on Afghanistan from the White House, according to his daily schedule. Afterward, the president will visit section 60 of Arlington National Cemetery to pay his respects to service members lost in recent conflicts.
American forces, in conjunction with troops from NATO allies, will begin withdrawing before the end of this month, according to a senior administration official who briefed reporters yesterday. The September deadline isn’t “conditions-based” and could be completed early, the official added. ....
