guest cure tor on this exhibit. i was a photographer myself and photographed a lot of politicians. starting with nixon. governor brown in california. and john f. kennedy. many of the events he was present at and tragically i was in dallas when he was assassinated. why this exhibit here in the american art museum at this time? well, it s the centennial of his birth. a hundred years ago he was born. how do you put an exhibit like this together, where do you start? first you start with a few researchers. and we collected actually 34,000 photographs of jfk and his family. it took about six months. and it became the basis of a very important book. that we published with harper collins. and from those 35,000 pictures and the 400 some odd pictures in the book we were able to select 77 photographs that we felt told the story of his life and times. jfk was a modern president. and john f. kennedy was one that saw america place in the world. he was a man who understood history. he ....

museum. you are welcome any time as is everyone wiatching. we were there for the opening ceremony in april. a chance to see the exhibits tonight. my opening question is how this project came about and why. well, it came about out of the decision that we need to preserve and tell the story of america s founding. and not just as a series of events, but as people who actually achieved it, who thought up these soaring ideals of equality and liberty and self-government and then how that really spread and inspired a nation, people in our nation to achieve it. it is the most important event in our nation s history. it not only gave birth to our nation, but it really gave us the values that make us a people. everything that we cherish and hold dear. so it s more than just artifacts? oh, it s far more than artifacts. our museum is founded on artifacts. in fact, when you come to the museum you will see one of the more comprehensive collection of artifacts of the revol ....
