Hyderabad:
The first lot of Russia's Sputnik V vaccine, the third one to be used in India after Covishield and Covaxin against coronavirus, arrived in Hyderabad on Saturday.
The vaccines come at a time when a deadly second wave of the coronavirus has been causing havoc across the country. The coronavirus cases in the country hit a grim global record with 4,01,993 fresh infections in the last 24 hours. 3,523 deaths were reported.

India and the world are facing a vaccine crunch since the second and third waves are rising faster than the inoculation rate.
The frightening truth is that we do not know.
We do not know why after over 13 crore recorded Covid-19 infections, 30 lakh deaths, nearly 700 million vaccine doses given worldwide, including in India, the waves of death and destruction keep coming, crashing on the rocks of fear and speculation, threatening to drown humanity in its worst nightmare.

Dealing with mounting pressure to speed up the distribution of COVID vaccines in the country, The central government has agreed to expedite emergency clearance for Covid vaccines, which are widely used in Western countries and Japan. This will directly enable vaccine manufacturers from outside India, such as Johnson and Johnson (Bio E), Zydus Cadila, Serum’s Novavax and a nasal vaccine from Bharat Biotech., to market vaccines that have not been subjected to India-specific studies but have shown strong safety profiles in other global regulators trials.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the UK Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), Japan’s Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency, and the World Health Organization (WHO) have all granted emergency use permission to Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.

Covid-19: India approves Russian vaccine Sputnik V for emergency use | India News

NEW DELHI: India on Monday granted Emergency Use Authorisation (EUA) to Russia's anti-covid vaccine Sputnik V, as the country continues to reel under the second wave of coronavirus.
The approval comes on the day India reported 168,912 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours to overtake Brazil as the second-most affected Covid-19 country in the world. India's overall coronavirus tally has reached 13.53 million.
The Subject Expert Committee (SEC) had met earlier last week and asked for more information on the vaccine. The committee, set up by the government, looked into Dr Reddy's application seeking approval for the vaccine to be used in India.
