It was THE place on the Syracuse University Hill to get authentic gyros, shish kabobs, falafels and fresh hummus. While that spot closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and has yet to reopen, a location in Fayetteville is open and now, a new King David’s opened a few weeks ago in Fairmount, although it hasn’t had its official grand opening. Elderly Woman Hangs Herself Due to Alleged Neglect by Nursing Home Staff It’s every adult’s worst nightmare. An elderly person goes into a care facility, but they don’t make it out alive. That’s what happened to Barbara Jarvis, an 84-year-old resident at the Van Duyn nursing home in Syracuse, New York. She was found dead in her room on December 13th of last year, and authorities are finally getting to the bottom of the situation after an ongoing thorough review. Investigating What Went Wrong An independent investigation from the state department of health shows that Jarvis slipped and fell in her room while trying to use the bathroom. Part of her hospital gown got caught on the door handle, causing her to accidentally hang herself to death, according to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office. ....

Jarvis was found dead Dec. 13 after she fell and accidentally hanged herself when part of her hospital gown got caught on a bathroom door handle, according to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office. The state health department cited Van Duyn for its handling of her care. Van Duyn’s nurse aides did not escort Jarvis even though her written care plan said she was at high risk of falling and required help, according to a state health department inspection report obtained by Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard. ....
