Impassioned plea for 'unity' from Ken Skates after holding onto Clwyd South seat

A POLITICIAN has made an impassioned plea for “unity” after holding onto his seat in the Senedd.
Cabinet minister Ken Skates was re-elected in Clwyd South today (Friday 7 May), despite seeing his majority over the Conservatives drop slightly from 3,016 to 2,913.
Mr Skates was able to steer clear of a repeat of the 2019 general election, where the constituency was won by the Tories in a shock result, by beating their candidate Barbara Hughes by 10,448 votes to 7,535.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who once stood to become an MP in Clwyd South, paid a flying visit to a farm in the area during the campaign as his party looked to make up ground.

Economy minister Ken Skates keeps hold of Senedd seat in Clwyd South

ECONOMY minister Ken Skates has kept hold of his Senedd seat in Clwyd South.
The Labour cabinet member was able to steer clear of a repeat of the 2019 general election, where the constituency was won by the Conservatives in a shock result.
Mr Skates beat Tory candidate Barbara Hughes by 10,448 votes to 7,535.
It came despite Prime Minister Boris Johnson making a flying visit to a farm in the area where he once stood to be an MP.
Plaid Cymru’s Llyr Gruffydd polled in third with 4,094 votes, followed by Leena Farhat (Liberal Democrats) 730, Jonathon Harrington (Abolish the Welsh Assembly) 599, Jeanette Bassford-Barton (UKIP) 522 and Mandy Jones (Reform UK) 277,

A Welsh Conservative candidate said she is "deeply sorry" for meeting her local party chairman in the official's home near Wrexham.
A local resident has said he saw Clwyd South's Barbara Hughes go into the home of Jane Newton earlier this month.
Ms Hughes was also alleged to have travelled in a car with Ms Newton while canvassing, against party guidelines.
"I want to apologise for these mistakes," she said.
"And regardless of the circumstances, I was in the wrong.
"I understand the seriousness of my actions and I am deeply sorry."

Wrexham.com's unscientific election Straw Poll results !

Wrexham.com’s unscientific election Straw Poll results !
Our entirely unscientific snap straw poll results are in!
Well over a thousand poll results were lodged in our now traditional snap straw poll that we conducted yesterday evening.
Of course polls such of these are lacking the segmentation and pre-qualification elements of ‘proper’ polls so treat it accordingly. The audience in theory was the self selecting readership relevant to the Wrexham area – however one candidate did place their poll on their page within minutes of it going live, and unlike previous polls the Google Forms system does not allow basic filtering to attempt to prevent multiple voters.

Potential GMO research misconduct at Norway's Institute of Marine Research

Did scientists break the law by eating GMO salmon from their research project? Report: Claire Robinson
A researcher at Norway's Institute of Marine Research has reportedly committed GMO research misconduct, according to a news article published by the Norwegian National Research Ethics Committees.

According to the article, Anna Wargelius killed and ate GMO CRISPR gene-edited salmon from the research project that she leads, claiming it was "safe" to do so. Her unnamed colleagues on the project also ate the salmon.
There are strict rules for performing research with GMOs in Norway, as laid down in the country's Gene Technology Act. Eating GMO salmon from a research project before it has commercial approval is a violation of the law on several counts, according to a whistleblower scientist who contacted GMWatch and wishes to remain anonymous.

Ex-Abolish the Assembly leader fails to keep party name

Ex-Abolish the Assembly leader fails to keep party name

The former leader of the Abolish the Welsh Assembly Party has failed in his attempt to register a new political party under the same name.
Abolish was struck off the electoral register in November after its registration lapsed following an internal row.
It meant the party's new leadership had to apply to have it re-registered for May's Senedd election.
However David Bevan also applied to use the name.
The Electoral Commission has now approved the new leadership's application over that submitted by Mr Bevan.
