"Joseph W. Peery built a mill in the 1860s at the junction of Boulder Creek and Bear Creek," writes Ross Eric Gibson. "The mill town that grew up was called Boulder, or Boulder Creek, with a Boulder Creek Hotel, general store and crude cabins. Then Peery built a new mill to the south in 1868.
