Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga has recognised the exceptional significance of three Wellington historic places. These noteworthy buildings, built throughout the 20th century, are now Category 1 historic places on the New Zealand Heritage List/Rārangi Kōrero (‘the List’).
Wellington Trades Hall on Vivian Street opened in 1929 and has been the home of trade unions ever since. The building has outstanding historical significance for its connections with the union movement in Aotearoa New Zealand; with the lives of ordinary working people and well-known union figures; organisations like the Labour Party and Federation of Labour; and major events such as the 1951 waterfront dispute ....

Three 20th century Wellington sites given heritage status

Victoria University has recently announced that it hopes to demolish the Gordon Wilson Flats on The Terrace as it plans to redevelop the area. (First published July 2020)
Three Wellington sites have been given the heritage tick, including a controversial set of flats and the currently closed Central Library.
Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga has listed the Gordon Wilson and McLean flats, Wellington Central Library and the Wellington Trades Hall as category 1 historic places on the Heritage List.
The 30-year-old library is the youngest listed building, Heritage New Zealand’s central region director Jamie Jacobs​ said.
“We are excited to add diversity to our List by including this exceptional postmodern building. We look forward to working with the Wellington City Council to have it strengthened and reopened to the community.” ....

Kaneland s Hall of Fame honors and recognizes alumni, staff members, organizations and supporters who have demonstrated excellence and commitment of service to District 302 communities and have each proven themselves to be an inspiration and role-model to students.
This year, the Hall of Fame Committee is proud induct the following individuals and team:
 
• Pat Hill in the category of Friend of Kaneland, beloved community member of Kaneville, and owner of Hill s Country Store, passed away Jan. 17, 2021 after a fierce battle with cancer. She was past president and trustee on the Kaneville Village Board and instrumental in establishing and continuing the tradition of the annual Kaneville Fest. In addition, she was a contributor to many charitable foundations in the area. She leaves her children, Alexa Hill and Tyler Hill and her husband, Clifford Hill. Pat will be inducted as ....

December 2020 marks the release of Pastor Arne Walker s third book (former pastor at Grace Lutheran Church of Lily Lake). The title for this book is Spirit Promptings.
A highlight of this book is photography by nationally famous nature photographer Ken Jenkins of Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Ken shares several pictorial essays as well.
 
Spirit Promptings gets its title because each Public Pulpit (published in The Mountain Press) grows out of his prayer walk. He never sat down and pondered something to write. The book includes over 150 titles. ....
