International Living points out that Vietnam’s “exceptionally low cost of living” is a huge draw. In
A Better Life for Half the Price, author Tim Leffel notes that Vietnam is “one of the best values in the world for travelers, especially when it comes to lodging and food,” making it a great value for residents, too. Leffel says that when it comes to apartments, almost anywhere in the country, “you can find something nice and reasonably roomy in the range of $300 to $800 a month.”
Indeed, Neil Varden, the CEO of CabinZero, moved to Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC or commonly still referred to as Saigon) from the United Kingdom three years ago, reports, “The cost of living is great. I can live like a king without spending much money, to be honest.”

Tran Hai Dang, deputy director of the Vietnam Institute of Musicology, says that many students are familiar with the western guitar, violin and piano but lack knowledge about traditional Vietnamese instruments.
To address the problem, the Institute of Musicology under the Vietnam National Academy of Music for many years has been working with schools to organize excursions to the institute to learn about and hear performances with traditional music instruments.
In special extracurricular lessons, students can learn about traditional music instruments of every ethnic group, and see artists’ perform and practice playing the instruments.

Following the wishes of his late father, who was a veteran defending Vietnam's Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago, a 51-year-old man wanders along the country’s coastal areas and islands, carrying fishing rods and his father’s portrait.
Since his father's death in 2014, Pham Ngoc Thuc, a son of Hoang Sa martyr Pham Khoi in the central coastal city of Da Nang, has continued the family’s legacy of collecting and providing archives to serve the country’s defense over its sovereignty in the East Vietnam Sea.

Quang Nam (VNA) – Being stuck in Hoi An in the central province of Quang Nam due to the
COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of foreign tourists have received assistance from the local government and tourism community to overcome difficulties.
Thankful for the help from locals, international tourists expressed their admiration for a safe, friendly, hospitable destination. Many said they would introduce to their loved ones and friends about Hoi An and Quang Nam in particular and the Central region of Vietnam in general, when the COVID-19 pandemic is brought under control. 
Just when Artur Gorge from Portugal arrived in Hoi An, the pandemic broke out, forcing him to stay in this ancient city. For over a year being stuck here, he made a living from teaching online, but the income is just enough to cover his daily need. Luckily, the owner of homestay Mr Tho Villa where he stayed has allowed him to stay for free. Gorge only has to pay for utilities.

GGRAsia – Corona casino part of new Phu Quoc complex by Vingroup


Vietnam-based conglomerate Vingroup Group is officially launching on April 21 its Phu Quoc United Center on Phu Quoc island, Vietnam, the company announced. The large-scale entertainment and leisure complex covers more than 1,000 hectares (2,471 acres) and includes a number of attractions, some already in operation. Among the latter is the Corona Resort and Casino, Vietnam’s first casino to allow eligible locals to gamble, opened in January 2019.
The Phu Quoc United Center project involves a total investment of more than US$2.8 billion, according to Vingroup. The promoter said in a press release issued on Tuesday that the complex was being “developed under the ‘all-in-one’ model”, i.e., featuring different forms of leisure and entertainment. It will connect to the existing VinWonders Phu Quoc amusement park, opened in stages by Vingroup starting from April 2020.

Four Vietnamese eateries have been included in the Inaugural “Essence of Asia” Collection, an unranked collection by Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants.

The four include Banh Mi Queen - Madame Khanh owned by Nguyen Thi Loc, famed for being the “Banh Mi” queen, in Hoi An city of the central province of Quang Nam.
Attracting tourists far and wide as well as locals alike, Loc's shop is located 15 minutes north of the Thu Bon river and has been serving up her deliciously “banh mi” for more than 30 years.

Diocese of Nha Trang helping the poor of every religion

During the current pandemic, the Diocese of Nha Trang in southern Vietnam is increasing its outreach towards people in need, especially the poor, regardless of their religion.
Parish branches of Caritas are leading the way in providing services in local communities. in areas where medical services are inadequate, the Catholic charity has become involved after years of talks with local authorities.
This is the case in one village, Võ Cang, on the outskirts of the city of Nha Trang, where Caritas opened a medical clinic on 20 October 2018 in Bình Cang parish, near the convent of the Sisters of the Pure Heart of Our Lady, a diocesan congregation that has trained doctors, nurses and pharmacists to serve patients.

The Ministry of Education and Training has announced that there will be only three sets of textbooks for second graders, including two published by the Vietnam Education Publishing House.
Two sets of textbooks ‘Cung hoc de phat trien nang luc’ (study together to develop abilities) and ‘Vi su binh dang va dan chu trong giao duc’ (for equality and democracy in education) won’t be available for second graders, limiting textbook choices for students.
