Huawei Confirms Exec Seeking HSBC Records In Hong Kong Court

Chinese tech giant Huawei confirmed Thursday that senior executive Meng Wanzhou is taking HSBC to court in Hong Kong to access banking records she says will help her battle extradition from Canada to the US.
Chief financial officer Meng whose father is the company s founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei has been in a two-year battle against extradition over charges Huawei violated US sanctions on Iran.
Meng is accused in the US of defrauding HSBC by falsely misrepresenting links between Huawei and a company that sold telecoms equipment to Iran. ....

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Hong Kong pro-democracy activist Ted Hui has arrived in Australia where his family will settle after the Australian government provided an exemption to its closed border policy and assistance with flights, he said on Tuesday.

A former Democratic party lawmaker, Hui left Hong Kong late last year after facing criminal charges over the 2019 pro-democracy protests.
His arrival in Australia comes as 47 pro-democracy activists have been charged in Hong Kong with conspiracy to commit subversion under a new national security law, because they participated in an unofficial primary last July to select the strongest candidates for a legislative council election. ....

Choi Wong Ling-ling, a national political adviser from Hong Kong, said on Wednesday that special administrative region s education system must learn from the motherland.

Facebook Halts Project For Undersea Data Cable To Hong Kong

Facebook has decided to halt its efforts to build a trans-Pacific undersea cable that would have connected California and Hong Kong, due to tensions between the United States and China.
Due to ongoing concerns from the US government about direct communication links between the United States and Hong Kong, we have decided to withdraw our FCC application, a Facebook spokesperson told AFP on Wednesday, referring to the Federal Communications Commission.
We look forward to working with all the parties to reconfigure the system to meet the concerns of the US government, the spokesperson added. ....
