Labella, wife inoculated with Covid-19 vaccine

May 04, 2021
EIGHTEEN days before he turns 70, Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella had himself inoculated with CoronaVac, the vaccine made by Chinese firm Sinovac Biotech, at SM Seaside City Cebu on Tuesday, May 4, 2021.
Labella was accompanied by his wife Joy, a senior citizen who was also vaccinated.
Vice Mayor Michael Rama, 66, was inoculated at Robinsons Galleria Cebu last April.
Labella said he decided not to receive the vaccine on the same day with Rama, his political ally, saying he wanted other senior citizens to be inoculated ahead of him.
The other reason for the delay in getting himself vaccinated was the issuance of a medical certificate by his doctor stating he was in tip-top shape to receive the vaccine, Labella said.

CEBU City has run out of vaccines against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), forcing the City Government to halt its vaccine rollout for senior citizens at noon on Friday, April 23, 2021.
It also prompted Mayor Edgardo Labella to call vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. to allow the City Government to purchase its own vaccines.
The City started inoculating members of the second priority sector, which are senior citizens, on April 19.
Labella, who belongs to this sector, was “quite disappointed” with the recent development.
“If there will be no more free (vaccines) to be sent by the national government, they shall pass (so) that the City will use its own funds with the proper observance of protocols,” Labella said, adding that the City will enter into a tripartite agreement with the national government and the supplier of vaccines for the procurement.

CEBU City Mayor Edgardo Labella asked Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar to send in experts and look into the “functionality and structural integrity” of the underpass along N. Bacalso Ave. in Mambaling, Cebu City.
In a letter addressed to Villar dated April 3, 2021, the mayor said that the multi-million underpass was heavily flooded within just 30 minutes of rain.
“This made the area unpassable, causing vehicular traffic in the area, which is a busy thoroughfare in Cebu City. This is now becoming a normal occurrence during the rains in Cebu City,” Labella said.

“I would rather have this looked into now, as soon as possible samtang labing init pa ang panahon, kaysa maghuwat kita nga mograbe ang problema inig abot na sa mga buwan sa ting-uwan,” padayag sa mayor.

Nalzaro: Labella still the voters' choice—survey

March 16, 2021
It is still over a year before the May 2022 local and presidential elections. But it seems that some politicians are now floating their names and their desire to seek elected positions on social media. Well, the earlier, the better. While others are just testing the political waters to assess voter acceptability and maybe their chances of winning.
Like it or not, social media and politics have become inseparable. That is because so much of our political discourse happens through the social media. Why? Because social media has the ability to break news in real time and has transformed the way we absorb information.

CEBU City Mayor Edgardo Labella resumed reporting at his City Hall office Tuesday, March 9, cleared by his doctor for that and sent back to his regular duties but still advised to stay away from crowds.
But he could not keep away from his constituents, he told a press-con with City Hall reporters on his first day back to the proverbial salt mines.
"Hiding from the crowd is not an option," Mayor Labella said.
